“A Step Taken” – An Original Poem by Janie Cashdollar

A Step Taken

Spin around the chair, don’t catch your feet

Or focus on the blurred lights

They know who you are, they want you here

So kick it up and

Let the music vibrate your bones,

Hold on to those hands reaching towards you

You told them, maybe not everything, but

Enough. Because at this point even you don’t know

And its been building for a while,

Tearing you down, shredding you up

And you have always known enough to never let

The bruises and cuts get physical

But you’re bleeding out now, the wound’s

Been lanced, so now seize it

Choke it out and smile and laugh and hold tight

To those hands reaching out, holding you up

Because you finally admitted it hurts, and

That’s the first step in healing.
